History

Believing in God’s Word and Spirit

The Coptic Orthodox Church was established in Egypt by Saint Mark the Apostle and Evangelist in 42 AD. The Church belongs to the Oriental Orthodox family of churches, which has been a distinct Christian body since the schism following the Council of Chalcedon in 451 AD.

The Coptic Church has many contributions to Christianity, which include the oldest Catechetical School in the world (est 190AD), where leading scholars such as Clement and Origen contributed heavily to the development of theology. The Church is also the Cradle of Monasticism from which all Christian monastic life stems, either directly or indirectly.

Mission Statement

What We Believe

At St Peter St Paul Oakville our mission is that of expressing the Orthodox faith in a Canadian cultural context. Our church is committed to providing its congregation with a place of worship as expressed through Orthodox tradition and establishing relationships with the greater community at large. We desire the inclusion of all, those born into the Orthodox faith and the newly converted.
