Candle Symbolism

  • A candle reflects a worshipper in God’s presence—calm on the outside but burning within. As it melts, its wax flows like tears, leaving behind a warm, guiding light that brings peace to those who see it.

  • Lighting candles helps us remember that Christ is the Light, encouraging us to live with purity and faith.

  • Candles are used in feasts, baptisms, Holy Saturday, Gospel readings, before icons of saints and martyrs, funerals, liturgy prayers, and before icons of Christ and the Virgin.
