  • He wrote both the Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts

  • He depicted Jesus as the Savior and Healer of all mankind, emphasizing care for the poor and sinners.

  • Accompanied St. Paul on missionary journeys and during imprisonment.

  • Martyred ~84 AD

The First Church Iconographer

  • According to tradition, St. Luke is the first church iconographer and painted the first portrait of the Virgin St. Mary.

  • You can see this icon which is one of the first copies of his portraits, in St. Mary church in Old Cairo
